Pictures

No, not really.

I'm uploading to the gallery, or trying to, (we know how I am) and then I have to get the rest off the other computer. I cannot convince Liz it is time to upload her 800 pictures! I want to see if we got more dolphins.

When we came home I could not get the laptop to connect to THIS network again, after having done so in NC with another network. until today when I finally got us our internets again - more dumb luck on my part because I surely don't know what I'm doing.

First week back at work - let's call it "Hell Week", shall we? Culminating with the entire phone system going down on Friday. (cooked - new system coming Monday or Tuesday - oh, that will be fun, too.) Oh, yeah - dental surgery on Thursday. so on Friday the boss orders up PIZZA for everyone. I mean, had me do it - from my CELL phone of course since the phones don't work. It looked good....

My dental stuff has made my face swell up but it seems to be going down, now - I can see out of my eyes again. I suppose this is a good thing.

We were out in the g/c/t a large part of the day but it was so windy we were afraid we would have lift off. The roof flying off is one thing, and bad enough, but what if we sail away on our platform? "Houston, we have a problem."

Dolphins

They came out to play on I think, the very first day. So far, only Julie and Jeff have the pic. Thanks, guys.

We're Back!

and sorry to be so. I know I did not post a lot while we were gone and I'm sorry, but I don't care. What a good time we had! We had wireless internet access but we were working with a
7" computer so it was hunt and peck and I gave it up. I will put the pics I took up in the gallery as soon as I can but today is not a good day. Tomorrow's not looking good either.

Tomorrow we will get Mercy back; who may or may not be glad to see us, but one thing's sure - things will change around here. The cats are getting all complacent. Surely was missing when we got home, but Goodness showed up right away - he knows what's up.

Our direction finding program took us a different way than the kid's's - we ambled our way through the hills of West Virginny; all while I am not looking (eyes covered) and other various off routes but I think we ended up with the same travel time and less traffic. all good. and I bought power ball tickets in W. Va. Not at a little country store where the lady clearly did NOT like me (I think it was my hair; my hair dryer broke and it had tufts sticking up - my hair , not the hair dryer, although that may have had tufts, I don't know anymore. but it does not work.) And according to her the nearest place to buy tickets was at the "Bowl-A-Rama" or the "Show". ??!!?? All said disapprovingly. (hair, I think) We passed the "Bowl-A-Rama" but never saw a "show" and I did not feel properly equipped (shoes, shirt) about going into a bowling alley to buy lottery tickets so we found them at a gas station just inside the state line. And Mega Millions in Virginia - this being part of the Master Plan. Julie bought me the book "The Secret" for Christmas and since it was a self-help book and I already know how to help myself, I didn't read it much. Liz borrowed it and brought it with her on the trip and so, since I get up at dawn since I turned old, I found myself reading it while waiting for everyone to wake up. The basic premise of it is, I think, that you attract things to yourself, either good or bad, by your thoughts and attitude. So I am working hard at attracting lottery winnings to myself.

Tomorrow Plan B kicks in. Work.

She Didn't Even Care...

We put Mercy in storage this morning and she walked away with the lady without a backward glance, and after we felt so guilty and sad! bah

I took a bag of cat food with me by mistake, thinking it was dog food, and so the lady thinks I'm senile. Well, she will have to eat their food, and I can't even find the new bag I bought for Mercy although I distinctly remember buying it so I probably AM senile. How can you lose a big bag of dog food??

loser.

It is easier to pack up without Mercy here, though. We have stuff laying around on tables everywhere that would have been chewed up by now.

The convoy begins tomorrow morning at 4:00 am. Not us; we're leaving at 6:00. Jeff and Dan are trying to beat each other there - Jeff's worried about getting the best bedroom and Dan's worried about the basketball game.

I will have to listen to the bball game in the car. eww.

Updated Weather

... now the rain is confined to two days. sigh. I suppose it will change every day and then be wrong in the end anyway.

You see how I am?

It is a misery to be me.

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Uh Oh

The extended weather forecast for our vacation destination has changed from "sunny every day" (yesterday) to "rain every day" (today). If it gets worse every day instead of better we will be evacuated from there before we ever leave home.

In which case we will point our car to Florida - I'm going SOMEWHERE.

We are leaving Sunday morning instead of Saturday. This is a relief to me since trying to coordinate travel with hotels, blah blah seems to stress me out.

Is That Possible?

that's what I said, at the vet tonight when they weighed Mercy. 86.6 Lbs! I think that's more then Einstein ever weighed, and he was a taller/longer dog. No, I think he was up to 90 lbs once.

anyhoo, the diet starts tomorrow.

I like to have a big dog, because I think of it as a REAL dog otherwise what's the point? If you're going to do something, go all in. (plus, they can drag you to safety, after they rescue you ;)) Little dogs are very cute but I think of them more as teddy bears, or toys. Although it may be handy to just tuck your dog under your arm and go off... heh. Just imagined doing that with Mercy. Well, this way I have an excuse not to.

With a dog tucked under your arm you might have to explain to people what it is.

She had to get her kennel shot and May is the month when all her shots expire, so there you go. We have a new rabies tag and we are a lot poorer.

I'm very busy getting ready to flutter away and most of it has to do with pets of one sort or another. I suppose people without pets just get in the car and go.

Boob's Japanese Maple

It does really well every year, until that big grass in front of it grows and blocks it out.

the Bob and Friend

He loves this dog, although he won't admit it. She loves him, mightily.

Lovely Little Darn Things

sigh. They multiply like weeds but every spring I'm glad about it. Forget me not.

six more days until we flutter away like butterflies!
counting...

Saturday, May 10, 2008

What?

I have not posted since Tuesday? How can this be...
Well, I have been busy.

I am organizing the trip now; I want to reserve a hotel room half way there and Bob says no. He wants to "fly like a butterfly", "fly like a kite" (his words), and just go where the wind takes us. This is all well and good unless we fly into the clutches of a burglar/serial killer and I would like to know where we are going because I have this control thing...

We butterflies may be sleeping in our car for all I know.
flutter, flutter...

I have a map program to put on the laptop, but I need to free up space so I am moving stuff 2 gig at a time on a memory stick to the upstairs pc , to drive d:, which as we know is risky. But I cannot get the dvd burner to work so it is what it is. When we get back I will take this thing in to someone and have them fix the dvd burner.

Dvd burners were put here by the devil, to make you have evil thoughts.

Some Fish

The pond tonight:

The car had its "brake shoes" separated from the "plate". or something like that; Whatever. Needed new back brake shoes. $145.00. I think they make this stuff up as they go along.

anyway we are going to drive the car every day for the next 1-1/2 weeks to see if anything else will go wrong before we leave. Unfortunate Events.

I will be live-blogging our trip, by the way, from my cell phone. Once we get there I can post short video clips with my camera. There is wireless internet access, they say and we will figure it out somehow. so stay tuned!

We Are Going On A Trip

well, maybe. Now everything is going the way I had expected: A Series Of Unfortunate Events.

We decided not to fly because we would have to rent a car for a week anyway - the nearest airport is 2 hours away. We decided to rent a car. so we have one reserved.

Except - the extra cost for the insurance is $200. So - we decided to take Lisa's car. Except - yesterday the back brakes started rubbing. Today we took it to the dealer - the one where we had it fully examined and fixed about one month ago - and left it there, and we shall see. (Probably $200 - ahahahahahahahah)

I have not canceled the reservation for the rental car. I will wait until the last possible moment. Maybe we should get airline tickets, too, just in case?

But it has been my experience that no matter how many backup plans you have, they can all topple down like, - not dominos - that assumes one thing falling and causing other fallage - more like a kaleidoscope - a whole string of totally unrelated events trying to create havoc.

we are going to the edge of the world with our family of children and grandchildren for a meeting of the minds, even if we have to limp in there in a uhaul truck, with an iv stand and doctors and nurses. Yeah - that's the ticket.

Scan Disk Has Completed

hoorah. It did not inform me there were errors it could not fix, so I assume it found them and fixed them. However, I am now afraid to access drive d: AT ALL. Until I get my dvd burner working.

Should I uninstall those thingy dingys?

Vicky Has A Bob

Vicky sent me this picture with the one word, "Bob". I take it to mean they have named this animal, "Bob". I assume this is a sheep. But it might be a fluffy goat... some of my hoofed animal education is missing.

Anyway - I hope it's not as stubborn as the one I have.

Sunday, May 04, 2008

Sheesh

well, I can't copy my stuff off that bad drive because now my "primary" & "secondary" ide channels have disabled themselves. Evidently that is code for my cd and dvd drives, to which I want to copy my stuff.

Windows troubleshooting suggests uninstalling and re-installing. That sounds scary to me.

All part of a master plot to make me appreciate a primitive life (hammer/stone/chisel). I can't even remember what I set out to do, a week ago when everything started imploding.

Give me strength.

Sigh

I have been trying to check-disk my drive d: for 3 days now; evidently the drive is bad. Right smack in the middle of My Pictures. I can still use the computer because c is ok but I HAVE to get my pics off that drive. What to do.

Bob is still head-holding; I don't know what to do about him either. (Check disk?) I can't help him, he won't go see a doctor, I can't make him and so I figure we will have another emergency run soon. Probably in the next two weeks.

I already am just assuming we will not be able to go on vacation.
