Labor Day Cookout
yeas it's on, and here, and Monday, and two o'clockish. Supposed to be nice, but I will keep checking with St. Goddard. If you have small children bring swimming gear for we have a small pool set up for the small chilrun (not Mercy's pool - bigger) and so probably more dangerous so we will have to appoint a pool watcher. heh. cooking gets you out of everything
so far we have people bringing pasta salad and some other kind of potato. jsyk I never make a dessert (except pumpkin pie at tgiving). People know this so Memorial Day we had about 7 different kinds brought in. This is a good thing i liking it.

Hmph.
here in my world technology continues to escape me but I can still do some stuff. Stuff I didn't need to do, come to think of it. before this technology. whatever. I think I will go back to picture taking oh that reminds me! Yahoo decided to shut down their photo page! found that out today. I have 300+ pics in there, some that were lost off my computer when that hard drive went awhile back.
I spent part of tonight downloading them back. sigh
How could there be more trouble?? (shhh too loud)
I set up the new monitor at work today and the copier repairman came and all is good. except for the printer but we will worry about that later. hopefully but why does it spew ink never had that before.
It's a wonderful thing!
I have been very mean this last few days so here's a part of a poem for all my friends:

i carry your heart with me
(i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart

I Feel Sorry For You
if you are just viewing this on Monday morning, because I had a bad weekend. no apologies will be issued, sorry (is that an apology (gasp))
and so it goes
and so it goes
Mercy's Ears
they're braided. ok ok they're not braided, but they look like they were, in the past, you know how that looks? ok, well I don't care if you don't know. but anyway they're nice. the bob says her ears are sissified but she's a GIRL petes sake and she can be pretty don't you think. I like it. poor mercy who needs to be "spayed" at her sadistic owners' bequest - who only care about their convenience, after all.
bad owners.
I'm Sorry About That Last Post
no i'm not. why do i need to apologize to invisible people? HAH that's my Catholic training kicking in
I'm Going Primitve
I can't take it anymore! All this stuff(sound card hjacked, I removed 16 gigabytes, uninstalled programs, system restore (should I?? (??), restore back to new motherboard install? should i? blahblahblahblahBLAH) what to do and i'm running out of daylight.
Maybe I'll go back to singing my own songs. although I can't record them - a blessing for all yall. and writing things down on stone, with a chisel. gotta get a chisel I don't think I have one. maybe I need a hammer too...
All I know is, I'm spending all my time trying to get this thing to make my life OUTSIDE nicer and it involves all this time INSIDE trying to get it to work. All of this is wasted time, in my book.
and what the heck.
I'm a pretty simple person, I have pretty simple things I want to do (because I'm simple) where's my SOUND CARD? or driver or whatever it calls itself. these days. simple thing isn't it.
Luckily for all yall I can still type stuff in here and annoy as many people as possible. but not as annoyed as I am! let that be a comfort.
Has anyone noticed that no matter how unwell your device is acting, it always says, "this device is working properly"? Who wrote this crap? and wherearethesepeopleineedtofindthem
could Windows help actually help, at times, or is that asking too much for the highly overpriced pos that it is (windows). I never had this much trouble with Amiga. or the commodore 64, except for the "press play on tape" issue, that is. which we figured out, eventually. (,8,1 duh)
windows - the only software with no tech support. at all.
how's your day going? I'm going to pretend that I care.

Not Happy
I'm not a happy camper today, for reasons I don't want to go into. Suffice it to say that it is almost 3:00 pm and I am still INSIDE dealing with computer issues not of my making and I just want to go OUTSIDE.
Got that out.
Mercy is being "spayed" on Sept. 7. Worrisome.
I'm having a Labor Day cookout and I thought it would be on Labor Day; now I have to iron out some issues.
Because "issues" come up with EVERYTHING I TRY TO DO. rowr
Got behind another person paying with coinage, this time at the convenience store today: $5.75 yep, counted out then had to be recounted by the counter person. of course.
what do I care. only using up my lifetime. and when it's done I can tell St. Pete I spent a lot of time waiting in line without blowing up. Does that count?

Tomorrow

Maybe I'll take some pics.

Plants Attack
Tonight Lisa says something's going on out front; the police are there parked on the road and something something. Oh no! reminds me when the kids were young - the burning barn, etc etc. So I say, "where's Bob??" (because I immediately assume it has something to do with him ahem). Not finding Bob I took Misery outside on the leash and tied her then proceeded out front where I find Bob and our next door neighbor leaving the barn with a chain saw (!!) and heading out front where I followed, still with the dog leash in hand, to find a tree in the neighbor's yard (!!) had fallen down on Rt. 6. I am so glad it did not fall on anyone. and I'm glad it wasn't our tree.
So, there's sawing going on, the cop is making one lane and the neighbor is wise-cracking about me coming to get Bob with a leash, whatever. wasn't funny.
That tree fell down for no reason I can see. Bob says ants, but. ants???!!
anyway now we have some firewood.

Hot And Hot
And wet but drying.
Bob got his grass mowed and is happy, but on the other hand does not seem to be concerned AT ALL about the water coming up through the floor in the laundry room. It's been like that and getting worse ever since last year when he dug up the yard. hmmm. One of the things I Am Not Allowed To Speak Of. We ignore the fact that the floor is wet round here. It's just a force of nature.
On the other hand Mercy chewed a hole in the living room carpet why did I not name her Misery instead of Mercy. Surely, Goodness and Misery shall follow me all the days of my life.
On the other hand I was going to get new carpeting in there in September.
On the other hand I don't know if I can get that done because of moving the fish tank and the thing housing the 1000 lb television.
How many hands do I have now. Five. Good because I'm going to need them.
Where is Boob's photo gallery???? I emailed him but he does not respond. Kim stops in here occasionally - please let me know. I want to see how the garden turned out.
Hey Boob, you ok? Sigh. this may require a physical telephone call.
Men.

Here's The Bob
at David's house. That's Kyle bean over there playing with water. We were over there a week ago when Scott, Christine and Lydia came home and then the week went by so fast I never got back over there to pore over the family history with Scott, dang.
I feel this urgency to get the genealogy right because I'm old now (and trying to get into heaven) and probably someone will want to know something at some point, all our older relatives died off in a kind of hurry leaving us with no one to ask about anything. and they never offered me one of their kidneys, either but that's ok because I didn't really need one (at the time) who knows what will happen. Just kidding!
Does this make me kind of the matriarch of the family now and is that not scary. I don't think I can sit in a rocker and pontificate wisdoms to the grandchildren. All my wisdoms are written down in here. I know yall think it's all just whining and complaining, but it's why I got this blog thingy anyway; to whine and complain, and that's why it's called Half Empty, petes sake. You knew going in. I don't think Suzy Sunshine would get any visitors, at least I tend to edge away from people like that, myself, and they all tend to talk A LOT. I usually say something completely irrelevant during a gap in the talking, to show I was listening (not), like "garbage men are evil!" and wait for the Look - squinty eyed puzzlement. I rest my case.
What was I talking about? whatever it was, I WILL remember and inflict it on you later.
Pond
Here's the wicky wacky pond with the leaking (because of moles) waterfall hence the hoses. Can't get rid of those moles - the cats bring them in the house all the time (I think to scare us away so they can have the place to themselves) but there's an endless supply of MOLES. and I'm not afraid of them, either. We have to get helmets and Bob needs to teach me how to shoot the shotgun, that'll fix'em. For some reason Bob drags his feet about teaching me to shoot, maybe he thinks I'll trip with the gun (why? would he think that) and shoot him in the head by mistake. Well, that's why the helmets! We'll sit out there all night and wait for'em. In our helmets. and no, don't come watch, too dangerous. I just hope we don't get arrested and if we do I'm blaming Bob.
He has such crazy ideas.
Stop Raining Dick Goddard
Hammer. Nails. Ark.
Goddard's our local weather forecaster on whom I throw all the blame for the weather, whatever it is, cursing him nightly ALL WINTER LONG. He himself uses 4-letter words all the time (snow, belt, lake, effect, some, accumulation, late - I know they're not all 4-letters and I DON'T CARE-).
Gimme my summer back, Dick.

She Went In
and she lays in there contentedly. Of course, not when it's raining.
I was going to tie her out in the rain today to see if she will go in - we went in the g/c/t. So she just stood out there and barked. I don't know if she thinks that when we are home we're supposed to get her in out of the rain, or what.
I'm talking about Mercy and the doghouse, what else?
Oh, and by the way - never chase a dog on a freshly oiled, wet, deck - unless you have golf shoes on.

The Word Of The Week
is "meadow" and "meadowlands". I see it everywhere this week. On signs, in books, on tv, everywhere.
ahh well it's a nice word.

Rudy Hates Ferrets
For some reason I can't stop laughing over this:
from the National Review:
"This excessive concern with little weasels is a sickness. I'm sorry. That's my opinion. You don't have to accept it. There are probably very few people who would be as honest with you about that. But you should go consult a psychologist or a psychiatrist, and have him help you with this excessive concern, how you are devoting your life to weasels."
Am I missing something? rofl

Good Luck
Bob and I have decided to say "good luck" to each other every morning instead of "good morning" because we have very little of it. Very little good luck, that is. We hope this will improve our score.
Sigh.
The toilet broke too, on top of everything else that broke last week.
This week we're on the upswing:
The computer will be back tomorrow with its new motherboard; my new monitor should be arriving at work shortly; Bob fixed the toilet and the 3-4-way switch; I am putting in a req for a new calculator at work; I've rigged a containment system for the dripping coffeepot; we hauled the dead car to Rusty in the land-far-away etc etc etc.
On the other hand!
The microwave is still rackety; the stereo I think is going; Mercy still won't go in her house, and there's more I can't think of right now.
Embrace the suck.
In the rest of the family - a crucifix fell off the wall by Alex's bed and hit him in the head, leaving a gash. Now he keeps saying "Jesus hit me!" which I guess is true, really.
Julie and Jeff are leaving for the country of Vermont today (driving) and the airfare promptly dropped $80.
Fine. Who cares. We don't need any dang luck.

Fires In Montana
Just heard about it this morning and I am very worried... because that's my job, to worry, and don't try to stop me.
It seems this is happening not far away from Glenn who is not responding to my emails rowr
They have evacuated 50 some houses, etc. If any of you can find out anything else please post it in the comments.
Update:
Just talked to Glenn by phone, who woulda thunk of doing THAT? They are fine, there are mountains between them and the fires, but it is very smoky.

The Lights Are On Again
(but nobody's home heh).
We got a dog house for Mercy to keep on the deck. We were both gone several days last week and we got some rain. So if rain is anticipated we have to cage Mercy - she climbs over gates if we try to pen her in the kitchen. Einstein doesn't. I think it's sad when she has to be in a cage all day.
She won't go in the dog house.
I put her bowl of food in there, way in the back but she goes in far enough to get a mouthful and then backs out to chew it. While standing in the rain.
Somebody kill me now.

Trouble Coming
Bob bought new 3-way & 4-way switches, but refuses to turn all the power off to replace them. Now he says he'll do it Monday when I'm at work. (!)
All we do is argue about it.
We toured the ymca Dream Home today and bought two tickets. Money down the drain.
Stopped at Roly Poly and had two wraps. Not bad.
Tomorrow we're hauling Bob's car out to Rusty again to have it fixed. Rusty lives in a land far, far away. And Lisa will come home tomorrow.
I'm working on Mercy's training now, seriously. She picks it up fast. Working on "sit" all this week. oh yeah, and "off". She already knows "no", but it will have to be reinforced.
The alpha cat whacked her when she backed him into a corner, so she has another booboo but now she knows, about the cat.
Wear your helmets and don't drive on bridges.

Sitting In The Dark
because now the lights in the living room don't work, either. Something to do with the defective 3-way switch; one light switch we never touch because it gums up the whole thing but today Kyle was flicking it up and down. Bob let him. Had to say that.
Well, add this to the decomposing heap of broken stuff. Suppose we'll get used to the dark, sooner or later. Mostly later in my case.
Bob is in there trying to get electrocuted or something, and banging on the wrong wall. I told him we used to have to bang on the wall to get it to work and now he insists on banging the wall by the door, instead. (?)
I want to go back to work right now. I mean, I want to go RIGHT NOW.
